Apply to become a Member of Hatfield Gateway Club!

Given our mission we’d love to be able to invite everyone to become a member of the Gateway Club but due to many regulations, that we need to follow we sadly can’t offer membership to everyone.

We understand this might be very upsetting to some, but we acknowledge that we simply can’t run at all if we don’t follow the rules. We may however in the future, given the right support, be able to offer membership to a wider group.

With that said then we initially invite those who are living independently / semi independently or with family in Hertfordshire to become members.

What Does Being A Gateway Member Mean?

As a Member you confirm that you live alone or with family in Hertfordshire.

Terms of Membership

You understand and consent that:

Membership is for people with care and support needs.
Members are responsible for their journey to and from the club and their personal money.
Photographs and videos will be taken during club nights. Members consent to being photographed/videoed. Photographs and videos might be put on social media, for advertisement and to evidence the charities work to the relevant authorities. If members do not want to be in photographs or videos they must let a volunteer know on the club night.
Support workers and carers will need to bring and show photo ID and they are responsible for the members they are with at all times whilst at the club.
Members are free to leave the club and volunteers are unable to stop them. If someone is responsible for a member’s care, the member needs to let them know they want to leave.
If a member display verbally or physically aggressive behaviour they might be asked to leave, be given a warning, be banned short term or permanently. The police may also be called.
Memberships are not refundable. A trial membership is £9 covering May to August 2026 only. This allows you to attend any (or all of) the 3 club nights during this time only.
If member is banned from the club or the information in a membership form is incorrect, Hatfield Gateway Club reserves the right to cancel the membership without a refund.
If Hatfield Gateway Club has safeguarding concerns about a member, we might need to tell their support workers or carers, the local authority or the police. If it is safe to do so, we will get the member’s consent before sharing information.

If you agree to the above and live alone or with a relative within the county of Hertfordshire you can click below and apply to become a member. You will then need to come to the Jim Mcdonald Centre on an event night with proof of address to complete your membership and obtain your membership card.

Who Can Become A Volunteer?

Anyone can help in some way. But our Volunteers need to be at least 16 years old to apply for the Advanced DBS check required. Additional training may be needed or given based on the volunteer role.

Why Become a Volunteer?

Being a Volunteer, no matter the time offered is both fulfilling and rewarding, Providing many real life skills & It’s a great accreditation for your CV.

Are there any paid Volunteers?

Unfortunately we can’t offer any form of payment to volunteers other than the gratitue and love of our members. But if you have the time to offer we greatly appriciate you!

What Sort of Events do you run?

We offer Dominoes, a Disco, Sports & Various Arts & Crafts. Some Volunteers offer their own unique skills on a rotational basis such as facepainting, nail polish art & various crafts if you have a skill you’d like to offer we’re happy to work with you on creating a suitable activity around it.

How Can I Contact You?

Our website application forms are the best way, or you can reach out on Facebook. We may setup a Shared Phone in the future to help keep members and volunteers alike informed.

How Do I Know if an Event is Cancelled?

Any Emergency Cancellations of events will be notified in the Private Facebook Group as soon as possible. All members and Volunteers will be added to the group on successful applications.

When are the Hatfield Gateway Events?

Standard Events are weekly on a Friday Night, however volunteer depending we’d like to offer special monthly or one- off activities but only if we have additional, extra volunteers available.

Where are the Hatfield Gateway Events?

All events will be held at the Macdonalds centre in Hatfield. If an event is to be held elsewhere everyone will be notified in good time via the Facebook Group.
